Fresco Project

In February 2010, at St. Elijah's Congregation's annual meeting, it was decided by the members of the congregation to move forward with a project to provide frescoes for our Cathedral. As a result of this decision, and with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Longin, we are very happy and excited to announce that the first phase of the Fresco Project has been completed. Thanks to the love and generosity of our Kolo Sestara who have covered the cost for our entire Cathedral's Dome, the Dome is now complete and looks magnificent, and spiritually inspiring. When one looks at the dome, there is definitely a "Wow Factor"! We can only imagine what our Cathedral will look like when the Fresco Project is complete. It will surely be like none other.

Now that the first phase of the project is complete, we must look forward to beginning the next phase. However, as was decided at the last annual meeting, this project is to be done in a "pay as we go" manner not to incur any additional debt such as a bank loan. Therefore, the next phase will not begin until enough money is raised to cover its cost.

That being said, and since many parishioners have been asking how they can contribute to the Fresco Project, it is our obligation to establish and present to you the following ways in which individuals, families, and organizations can make donations:

1. Church Office on Sundays.
2. Father Alex.
3. Church Website (www.stelijahcathedral.org). (Coming Soon!)
4. Mail.
5. Fresco Project Donation envelopes located by the Candle Room.

Donations can be made monetarily directly into the general Fresco Project Fund, or towards a specific section of the Frescoes. Samples of the Fresco sections and associated donation amount can be found at the bottom of this page, as well as in the church office and posted in the Sunday school area lobby.

All donations will be accounted for in a newly established Church Fresco Project bank account. Checks can be made payable to St. Elijah Church and sent to St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 8700 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN, Attention: Fresco Project Committee.

A commemorative book and plaque recognizing all donors is planned for the future. Anyone donating $5,000.00 or more will be recognized as a Fresco Founder.

If you know anyone that would be interested in donating to the Fresco Project please pass on this information to them. Our Church needs your help and commitment. We hope and pray that everyone will find it within their hearts to contribute to this wonderful project. Thank you.

Sincerely,

David Maksimovich, Committee Co-Chairman
Milorad Stojic, Committee Co-Chairman
Nikola Beader, Church Board President
Reverend Aleksandar Novakovic, Parish Priest
