Frula Folklore Group

St. Elijah's Folklore Group, "Frula" has been an integral part of our St. Elijah Church community since the 1960's. Many church members, who participated as youngsters in our folklore group, have enrolled their own children to continue the culturally rich tradition of performing dances, while wearing handmade traditional costumes, from the various regions of Serbia.

At present we have 3 separate folklore groups ranging in age from 4 to 18. Our folklore groups, over the years, have traveled and performed throughout the midwest and Canada and as far west as San Diego, California and participate yearly at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industries, "Christmas Around the World" exhibit. We also host an annual folklore festival in which we invite folklore groups from across the United States to perform. This annual event has established many new friendships and strengthened old ones throughout the years.

If you would like to enroll your child in our folklore group at any time throughout the year, please inquire in the Church office on Sunday's after the Divine Liturgy or contact the Serbian American Hall office at 219-769-4375 for specific contact information. Our folklore year begins each September and concludes midsummer after performing at our annual Church "Serbfest".
