 St. Elijah SNF Srbija Lodge #170 The Serb National Federation also known as the “SNF” was established over 100 years ago. Originally the organization was launched to provide Serbian immigrants with assistance and support as they built a new life in the United States and Canada. The SNF evolved in the early years and began offering insurance and investment products to its members which helped in the preservation and unification of our Serbian heritage and culture. Through memberships, investments, fundraisers and donations, the SNF has made significant contributions exceeding millions of dollars through the years to aid, rebuild and assist our suffering Serbian people and churches. Besides the financial and humanitarian aid the SNF offers, the SNF local lodges along with their parishes, host annual sports tournaments. St. Elijah SNF Srbija Lodge #170, has provided the facilities to host numerous tournaments through the church’s existence. These tournaments not only raise money for the local parish and SNF organization, but it also unites the Serbian youth from other churches to ensure this “Serbian family reunion” among Serbs from parishes throughout the U.S. and Canada continues as an important part of our heritage in North America.  Besides hosting these events, members of our local lodge have always traveled, sometimes great distances, to participate bringing home many trophies through the years from other tournaments! Children as young as 3 or 4 years old have participated in the wee-wee division up to the 40 and over adult division in the basketball tournaments. St. Elijah had the honor of hosting the 2010 Annual Basketball Tournament the weekend of April 30-May 2, 2010. We welcomed fellow Serbs from near and far to enjoy a nice spring weekend in Merrillville, Indiana and rekindle old friendships and begin new ones! The weekend of great sportsmanship ended with the evening of Serbian food, songs and dance at the beautiful St. Elijah Hall. |
